tim tam slam, pt. 3: the student attempts
jimbo, having recently acquired not only a tim tam, but also that most-holy-knowledge (how to perform a tim tam slam, of course) attempts his first-time slam. it was a success

shanie's 86th birthday
a handful of family members gathered together recently to wish my grandmother a happy 86th birthday!

steve
i'm not sure if he was trying to make a point with an emphatic gesture, or he was just being silly.. i'm sure we'll never know. either way, i like photographing steve, he's funny looking
judy
the only sister of four brothers, my aunt judy most likely had her hands full growing up, if i know my dad and uncles
surprised much?
robyn and i live in a small apartment with virtually no yard, and less-than-virtually no peace and quiet, so we don't really have the luxury of a well-visited birdfeeder like the one my parents have.. so when we visited them recently, both robyn and i took advantage of the situation and tormented the poor hungry nuthatches, finches and chickadees with our camera flashes. now, if only that cardinal would get a little closer..
pepi, steve, & heather
and without further ado, here's the 2008 official "pepi, steve, & heather alman holiday card" photo.. now if i could just get them to either wear jackets or stop complaining about the cold, i'd be golden! (last year's photo)
robo possum vs beavitron
what else can be said? two cybernetically-enhanced über-rödents enter the thunderdome, but only one leaves. and for the rercord, the speech bubbles were added after the initial drawing, but they are completely apropos
the true power of the g1
one day recently, when the office internet was flaking out, john decided to get his money's worth out of his new g1 phone and fired up ssh to do a maintence release on one of our products.. now, i wouldn't want to compile a linux kernel on that thing, but it's great for simple command-line tasks via ssh. oh, and rumor has it that you can make phone calls on it too
leaning tower of stupid
if there are two things to know about the guys in tech, it's this: 1. we never throw out cardboard boxes, and 2. we never lack any disregard for jimbo's safety
postscript: the stack of boxes fell on jimbo just a few minutes later, leaving him relatively uninjured, although one of the larger boxes bent a flap and had to be put down. also, this photo was taken over a week ago, and we still haven't thrown away any of the boxes yet. mission accomplished
jeremy sits in on drums
once benny gets an idea in his head, there's no stopping him.. which is how jeremy ended up playing drums with los sugar kings the other night.. of course, i think the main reason benny wanted jeremy to play was so that he could get up to the bar for more booze.. but hey, guess who that second shot is for (give the drummer some!)
shots!
you know, at the time i was a little bothered that i didn't get a single in-focus shot (low light, no flash) but now i think it actually makes for a better photo. well, at least given the subject matter
jeremy sits in on keys, pt. 2
jeremy hangs with dan (and the rest of los sugar kings) at the edgewater in salem, ma
jeremy sits in on keys, pt. 1
both jeremy and jeff buckridge sat in for a few tunes with los sugar kings last friday night at the edgewater. later in the evening, i actually sat in on bass and we laid down the funk. it was good stuff
the guys
last week, some of us got together last-minute-style to throw jeremy a little bachelor party. it was very short notice, because that's the way we roll.. but it turned out that a few friends actually had the night free, so it worked out.
we started out at passage to india in salem, ma, where we drank many beers and ate more fantastic indian food than should have been humanly possible. after that, we went next door to the edgewater and checked out los sugar kings, while drinking much, much more, despite our combined fullness.
all that matters is that jeremy had a good time, drank many beers and many shots, and danced with some random chick at the edge. sweet

studio 2008
here's the latest incarnation of my home studio. sonar 7 running on a quad-core intel box with a pulsar scope ii card.. with a whole ton of keyboards (the sh-101 is still my favorite, of course) and my basses. i'm still trying to figure out how to get the akai working with sonar, but i'm sure it won't take too much longer (i hope)
underfoot
quite literally–except about twenty feet so. just visit the fifth ave nyc apple store, and when you get to the bottom of the stairs, look up
toothpicks, pt. 2
while i was cleaning off the living room table this morning, i slipped and spilled the open container of toothpicks, which (of course) went flying everywhere. looking at them, an idea came to me.. so instead of getting to work on time (of course), i was outside on the deck, carefully arranging toothpicks and photographing them with a 12mm lens extension tube in available light.. check out the other toothpick photos
orange flowers
these colorful orange flowers sat next to a tree outside a shop in vineyard haven, just begging to be a photo on the internet
maybel
when we visited nick and kara, maybel was pretty relaxed all day long, and decided to pose (aka. not run away) for the camera. she's a ragdoll, and a truly beautiful ragdoll at that. you can't see it in this photo, but the best part is when you pick her up - she's like a big, floppy, purring beanbag
tranquil pier
newport at night: after sunset, the dark sky still had a surprising amount of color. most of the shops had closed already, so robyn and i were just walking around, exploring
odd structure
as the sun was setting in prospect hill park, i happened upon this odd looking structure. i'm guessing that it's some kind of radio tower, but what a bizarre shape.. either way, with the setting sun, chain-link fence and graffiti, it looks like some kind of run-down post-apocalyptic nuclear death silo (or something along those lines)
dragonflies: one of.. oh, eighty
so i wanted to make the wedding favors myself, and yes, they came out great.. but at twenty minutes each, it was definitely quite the undertaking. here's an exciting play-by-play of one of the dragonflies that i matted and framed (to match the favors themselves) at 8x10" for each of our parents, as a special gift
tilted
we walked around seattle for two days and passed this building multiple times - but this one time i happened to have a great view framed by an archway, near an outdoor atm. while robyn grabbed some cash, i grabbed this shot. and no, the building isn't really tilted like this - due to the angle of the archway, i had to tilt the camera to get the shot i wanted
oh no.. not you again
koda is a beautiful seal point himalayan, with a great temperament. earlier in the day, koda wasn't picking up what i was putting down - every time i tried to take a photo, he'd run into the next room, and i gave up after few minutes of this. after a few hours though, he was a bit more relaxed.. and i finally managed to get a good photo

honeymoon
our honeymoon itinerary:
* 2 days in seattle
* 3 days in vancouver
* 7 days on a cruise to alaska
in seattle, we met up with some friends and family, saw the space needle and emp, had some beers, had a great time.
in vancouver, we ate a LOT of sushi, saw an imax movie at the science museum, fish, whales and "miscellaneous" at the aquarium, had more beers, some double mojitos, had a great time.
on the cruise, we visited sitka, skagway, and juneau. we saw one slug, two glaciers, maybe fifty bald eagles, three hundred sled dogs, and about a million beautiful flowers, trees, and mountains. and we had some beers. and wine. and baileys. and a great time, of course

newport jazz festival 2007
i didn't really go to newport this year to take photos. i went to relax with robyn, listen to some good music, and get a sunburn - and yes, i succeeded on all three points.
so, either way, whatever photos i did take are a bonus, so enjoy
